What is Symbicort?

Symbicort is a combined medication for inhalation use (Formoterol+Budesonide) with anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator action. Symbicort is available in the form of a powder for inhalation.

– Diabetes;
– Hyperthyroidism;
– Aneurysm;
– Uncontrolled hypokalemia;

Symbicort dosage and administration

Symbicort is not used for the initial treatment of mild, intermittent (episodic) and persistent asthma. The dose is adjusted individually (depending on the severity of the disease).

There are two schemes of drug administration in bronchial asthma: as a constant maintenance therapy or as a permanent therapy. Adolescents from 12 to 17 years and adult patients 18 years and older should use 1-2 inhalations twice a day (at a dose of 80/4.5 mcg, or 160/4.5 mcg). If necessary, the dose can be increased to 4 inhalations twice a day (one inhalation in the morning and one in the evening; or two inhalations in the morning and in the evening).

Do not use this drug for the treatment of seizures in children and adolescents up to 18 years.

The recommended daily dose for adults should not exceed 6-8 inhalations. Patients who use more than 8 inhalations per day should consult the physician.

Symbicort for the treatment of COPD is prescribed only for adult patients: 2 inhalations twice daily. Elderly patients should not reduce the dose of the drug.

How to use Symbicort inhaler

Remove the cap from the inhaler before the first inhalation. Hold the inhaler upright, turn the dispenser until it stops. Insert the inhaler into your mouth and take a deep breath. Do not exhale and remove the inhaler from the mouth. Repeat the above steps if more than one dose required.

Close the inhaler after inhalation. It is recommended to rinse the mouth with water after each inhalation (to prevent fungal infections).

Symbicort side effects
