Pharmacological action of Rebetol

Rebetol indications for use:

Rebetol contraindications

This drug should not be used in patients up to 18 years of age. Rebetol is not prescribed in case of severe forms of heart disease (diagnosed within 6 months prior to initiation of therapy), sickle-cell anemia, thalassemia and other types of hemoglobinopathies, thyroid gland pathologies (resistant to therapy), severe forms of liver disorders, decompensated cirrhosis of the liver, autoimmune hepatitis and other autoimmune diseases, chronic renal failure, severe depression, suicide attempts, suicidal thoughts. Rebetol should not be used in case of intolerance to ribavirin and other components of the drug, as well as during the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Rebetol is used with caution in patients with other heart diseases, diabetes mellitus, severe lung diseases (including chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases), disorders of the coagulation system (including pulmonary embolism, thrombophlebitis). The drug should be avoided in patients with concomitant HIV infection (due to the high risk of lactic acidosis).

Rebetol dosage and administration

Rebetol capsules are taken during meals. The daily dose of Rebetol ranges from 0.8 g to 1.2 g (divided into 2 doses, morning and evening). The drug is prescribed in combination with interferon alfa products.
The recommended daily dosage regimen:
– Patient weighting 75 kg or less: 1 g (0.4 g in the morning and 0.6 g in the evening);
– Patient weighting more than 75 kg: 1.2 g (0.6 g in the morning and in the evening).
The recommended duration of combined therapy is no more than 12 months. The duration depends on the tolerability and the therapeutic effect.

Hematopoietic system: moderate anemia, neutropenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, granulocytopenia; rarely – aplastic anemia.
