Important information about Lantus

Lantus (insulin glargine) is a solution for subcutaneous injection. The main function of insulin glargine is regulation of glucose metabolism. Lantus reduces plasma glucose level (due to the disposal of glucose in peripheral tissues: muscle and adipose tissues) and suppresses hepatic glucose production. Insulin inhibits the process of lipolysis in adipocytes and simultaneously activates the process of protein synthesis.

Lantus can be used once a day. Patients will feel better within an hour after subcutaneous administration. The duration of action – from 24 to 29 hours.

There is no difference in terms of efficacy and safety of the drug in different groups of patients. There have not been any studies in children and adolescents.

According to the instructions, Lantus is used in the case of type I diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes), type II diabetes (in case of resistance to oral hypoglycemic drugs).
