Intagra pharmacologic effect
Intagra (sildenafil) is used for treatment of erectile dysfunction, which is defined as the inability to achieve and maintain erection necessary for sexual intercourse. The drug has the same effect as Viagra.
Sildenafil has a direct relaxing effect on smooth muscles. It increases blood supply to the cavernous bodies and causes strong erection during sexual intercourse.
The drug is rapidly absorbed. The maximum concentration is observed within 30-120 minutes (60 minutes on average). The rate of absorption is lower when administered with fatty food. Sildenafil concentration is higher in elderly patients than in younger persons (up to 40%).
Intagra has no adverse effect on male fertility.
Intagra indications
Intagra is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (in order to increase the ability to achieve and maintain erection during sexual intercourse).
Intagra dosage and administration
It is recommended to take the drug on an empty stomach (it works faster than when used together with food). Take the pill 60 minutes before sexual intercourse.
The initial therapeutic dose is of 50 mg once per 24 hours. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 100 mg, or reduced to 25 mg. The maximum permissible dose is 100 mg. The recommended interval between the doses is of at least 24 hours.
Patients with chronic renal failure (mild to moderate degree) should take 50 mg. In severe chronic renal failure or liver failure, the initial recommended dose is of 25 mg.
If you take ritonavir, the maximum dose of sildenafil is 25 mg (every 48 hours). The initial dose of sildenafil should not exceed 25 mg if you also take saquinavir, itraconazole, erythromycin or ketoconazole.
The recommended dose for elderly patients is 50 mg.
Intagra side effects
Common side effects are observed at high doses. Therapeutic doses are well tolerated by patients.
Common side effects include headache, facial flushing, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, vision changes, priapism. These symptoms are transient and do not require additional treatment.
Sildenafil may cause allergic reactions in case of individual sensitivity.
Intagra contraindications
Do not use this drug in those with high individual sensitivity to sildenafil.
Sildenafil is not used in patients taking nitrates and nitric oxide donor drugs.
It is not recommended to use this drug for severe cardiovascular disorders (unstable angina, heart failure).
The drug is contraindicated in Peyronie's disease, severe hepatic failure, hypotension, after a stroke or heart attack (within the first 6 months).
Intagra is not recommended for use by persons under 18 years of age. The drug is not used in women.
Caution should be prescribed in patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system.
The drug is used with caution in Peyronie's disease, sickle cell anemia, leukemia and myeloma.
Intagra drug interactions
P450 inhibitors reduce the elimination of sildenafil and increase the risk of adverse effects.
Inducers of cytochrome P450 may reduce the pharmacological effects of the drug.
Cimetidine reduces sildenafil clearance and increase the risk of adverse effects.
Concomitant use of sildenafil with HIV protease inhibitors (saquinavir, ritonavir) is not recommended.
Antacids do not alter the pharmacokinetics of the drug.
Sildenafil increases the pharmacological activity of nitrates.
Grapefruit juice may affect the metabolism of the drug.
Tolbutamide and warfarin may be used together with sildenafil.
Doxazosin is able to provoke postural hypotension (without loss of consciousness).
