Estrace (estradiol) pharmacological properties

Estrace (estradiol) is a preparation for hormone replacement therapy (contains estradiol). It is used in estrogen deficiency, including climacteric disorders (menopause).

Estrace (estradiol) is widely used to treat climacteric syndrome – certain disorder based on age-related changes in ovarian function. It is also used in estrogen deficiency after surgical removal of the ovaries or radiation castration. In both cases reduced endogenous estrogen levels lead to the development of hot flushes, sweating, sleep disturbances, depression, irritability, headaches, dizziness, skin atrophy, hyperesthesia of the bladder, etc. In addition, long-term effects of estrogen deficiency include osteoporosis (especially menopausal osteoporosis) and increased risk of cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction, stroke).

Estradiol plays an important role in bone formation. It is effective against osteoporosis, especially in postmenopausal women. Estradiol reduces the incidence of fractures in postmenopausal women.

– Estrogen deficiency in menopause and after ovariectomy (physiological, premature or menopause induced by radiation), accompanied by vasomotor disturbances (hot flashes, night sweats, migraine), urogenital disorders (dyspareunia, atrophic vulvovaginitis, urethritis), mental disorders (fatigue, sleep disturbances, depression);
– Prevention of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease in premenopausal women;

Prolonged estrogen replacement therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer. However, small doses of estrogen are not associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.
