What is Diovan HCT (valsartan)?

Diovan HCT (valsartan) is an antihypertensive drug. The product contains valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. These active ingredients complement each other’s therapeutic effect and reduce the risk of side effects.

Diovan HCT has a strong antihypertensive action. It helps normalize systolic pressure and cardiac output. Indications for use of Diovan HCT (valsartan)

Possible contraindications of Diovan HCT (valsartan)

Diovan HCT is not administered to patients with electrolyte imbalance, refractory hypokalemia and symptomatic hyperuricemia.

Breastfeeding should be discontinued before starting treatment with valsartan.

How to use Diovan HCT (valsartan)

The dose of valsartan is selected individually according to tolerability and degree of the hypotensive effect. Patients with impaired hepatic function may not change the dose.

Take Diovan HCT 1 time per day. The daily dose is 160mg/12.5mg.

Possible side effects

Nervous system: fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, paresthesia, somnolence, vertigo, tinnitus, blurred vision.
Cardiovascular system: palpitations, syncope, tachycardia.
Respiratory system: bronchospasm, dyspnea, epistaxis.

Diovan HCT (valsartan) drug interactions

The combination of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide may increase the neurotoxicity of salicylates, cardiac glycosides, cardiotoxic and neurotoxic effect of lithium preparations, muscle relaxants.

Diovan HCT reduces the excretion of quinidine, reduces the effect of oral hypoglycemic drugs, norepinephrine, epinephrine. It reduces the excretion of cytotoxic drugs (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate) and leads to an increase of myelosuppressive action.

Hydrochlorothiazide may increase the level of drugs containing lithium or potassium.

Anticholinergic drugs increase the bioavailability of hydrochlorothiazide.

The drug increases the risk of side effects of cytostatics and amantadine.

NSAIDs reduce the efficiency of the drug and increase the risk of undesirable effects.

The combination of methyldopa with hydrochlorothiazide can lead to hemolytic anemia.

Indirect anticoagulants, clofibrate, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may increase the diuretic effect of Diovan HCT. The drug may be used with caution with vasodilators, beta-blockers, barbiturates, phenothiazines, tricyclic antidepressants, ethanol.
