Clovate pharmacological action

Clovate cream (clobetasol propionate 0.05%) is available in the form of a white, homogeneous mass. It is used to treat certain skin diseases. Clobetasol reduces inflammatory exudation and has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, anti-allergic effects. This drug is mostly used in patients with psoriasis and eczema.

Clobetasol is metabolized mainly in the liver and in the kidneys. It is excreted in the urine.

Clovate indications

The drug is used in the following cases: - psoriasis (with the exception of pustular psoriasis); - eczema (various forms); - red flat lichen; - discoid lupus erythematosus; - other skin diseases resistant to therapy with other drugs for topical application.

Clovate contraindications

Do not use Clovate in small children.

Clovate dosage

Clovate cream or ointment is applied on the affected skin 1-2 times per day. You should apply a thin layer of Clovate cream. The duration of treatment is limited to 3-4 weeks.

The anti-inflammatory effect of Clovate can be strengthened in particularly complicated forms of diseases, especially in the presence of hyperkeratosis. Patients should cover the affected area with an occlusive dressing, which is usually accompanied by a positive effect. The skin should be cleaned every time you change the occlusive dressing.

Clovate overdose is unlikely. However, symptoms of Cushing's syndrome may develop in case of chronic overdose. In this case, discontinuation of the drug is recommended.

Clovate side effects

Allergic reactions: burning, itching, acne, dry skin. High doses can cause atrophic changes in the skin (atrophic changes such as striae, especially when using occlusive dressings or applying to skin folds). In rare cases, Clovate cream for external use provokes pustular psoriasis, skin pigmentation and hypertrichosis.

When applied to large surfaces, Clovate can cause systemic side effects: gastritis, ulceration of the gastrointestinal mucosa, high eye pressure, Cushing's syndrome.

Long-term use of Clovate in large doses can be accompanied by symptoms of hypercorticism. The risk is higher in children, especially when using an occlusive dressing.

In rare cases, your usual symptoms can become worse.

Clovate interactions

All possible drug interactions are unknown.
