How should I use Azulfidine (sulfasalazine)?

Sulfasalazine is taken after a meal.

Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis: the recommended dosing regimen for adults and children from 16 years is 4 times a day. A single dose during the first day is 500 mg, during the second day – 1000 mg, and then – 1500-2000 mg. Maintenance therapy: 3-4 times a day at a dose of 500 mg (for a few months). The maximum dose is 8000 mg per day.

Children 6 years of age and older: from 40 to 60 mg per kg of body weight every 24 hours, divided into 3 to 6 doses.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis: children from 16 years and adults should take sulfasalazine in a single dose of 500 mg. During the first week – once daily, during the second week – 2 times a day, and then – 3 times a day. The therapeutic daily dose may be in the range of 1500-3000 mg. The clinical effect is usually obtained after 6-10 weeks of treatment.

Blood-forming system: methemoglobinemia, macrocytosis, megaloblastic anemia, neutropenia, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, hypoprothrombinemia, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia.
