Avelox is indicated in case of infectious processes associated with lung cavities and upper respiratory tract (acute and chronic sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia), intra-abdominal and urogenital infections (intra-abdominal abscesses, polymicrobial infections, endometritis, salpingitis, other pelvic inflammatory disorders), skin and soft tissue infections.

The drug is active against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, organisms that are resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics, and antibiotic-resistant anaerobic bacteria. The active substance of Avelox penetrates into cells membrane and kills bacteria.

Restrictions and precautions while taking Avelox (moxifloxacin)

Avelox therapy is inadmissible in such diseases as pseudomembranous colitis and severe renal insufficiency. It is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women, children under 18 and people with allergic reaction to any component of the drug. Care is needed in patients with diseases of the central nervous system. Consult your doctor if you have hepatic failure, acute myocardial ischemia, bradycardia, hypokalemia.

Usual duration of therapy during exacerbation of chronic bronchitis is 5 days. The optimal duration of therapy for pneumonia is up to 14 days.

Patients may use Avelox for around 7 days in acute sinusitis and uncomplicated skin infections. Treatment of complicated skin infections may last for longer than two weeks.
