Medical information for Aczone (dapsone)
Aczone (dapsone) is a gel used in combating bacterial infections for therapy of acne. Its active ingredient is dapsone. Due to its bacteriostatic action, dapsone helps fight against a wide range of microorganisms. The drug helps reduce the production of sebum, stimulates skin cell regeneration, and reduces inflammation.
Aczone (dapsone) indications
Aczone is prescribed for the treatment of acne. It is effective for light and medium forms of acne, as well as for systemic therapy of acne in severe and very severe stage. Aczone is also used for the treatment of lupus-specific skin lesions, leprosy (in combination with other drugs), dermatitis herpetiformis, bullous pemphigoid (alone or combined with corticosteroid or immunosuppressive agents).
Aczone (dapsone) dosing and administration
Aczone gel should be used twice a day – in the morning and evening. The dose of the drug should be selected individually based on the attending physician’s consideration.
Before applying the gel, you should carefully wash your face with warm water (use only products with a neutral pH), and then remove excess moisture with a soft towel. Apply a small amount of gel (a pea-size amount of Aczone) on the affected skin, gently spread a thin layer with circular smoothing movements of your fingers, and then rub the gel within ½-1 min. Wait until your skin absorbs Aczone gel completely. After completion of the procedure, rinse your hands thoroughly.
The average duration of treatment is 12 weeks. If there are no significant changes after the therapy, you need to consult your dermatologist. Consult with your doctor before you decide to end Aczone therapy.
